We Built a Clone of a Lawyer. Now He Is Semi-Retired.
A Calgary personal-injury lawyer was chained to his desk because he was the only search engine his firm had. When his associates filed a new claim, they needed prior cases to reference, the filing system was too archaic to search, so they knocked on his door and he recited file names and numbers from memory. We built him an AI agent, a digital twin of his case knowledge, running on a hard drive in his office. No cloud. Now his team asks the agent, and he is semi-retired.
The human computer problem
He called himself a human computer, and he was not joking. Decades of case knowledge lived in his head because the firm's filing system could not surface it. Every new injury claim meant an interruption: which file should we reference? He would give the file name and number, because finding it any other way was nearly impossible. He wanted to step back from the firm. The door-knocking made it impossible.
"Absolutely not interested in the cloud"
When we said AI could fix this, his answer was immediate: he would not put a single case file into anything connected to the cloud. Client confidentiality is his entire reputation. Most AI tools send your data to someone else's servers to work, and for a law firm that is a non-starter.
So we told him what most business owners do not know: an AI agent can run entirely on your own hardware. A machine in your office. No connection to the cloud, nothing sent to a third party, ever. He could not believe it was possible. Then he said: absolutely, yes. Do it.

The agent holds the firm's case knowledge and answers the questions that used to require the knock on his door. Which prior cases relate to this claim. Which file, which number. His associates ask the agent directly and get their answer in seconds, with the confidentiality guarantee that nothing ever leaves the building.
